001. we're told in "Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians: Principles of Care Guidelines" by NDs Marden, Nigh, Birdsall, Wright and Traub in the journal Current Oncology [Curr Oncol. 2019 Feb;26(1):12-18]:
"the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians [...] was formed in 2004 as a specialty association for naturopathic physicians providing integrative cancer care [...] the POC document presented here provides clear guidelines for ND ONCS on how best to deliver patient-centered care in the areas of assessment, treatment planning, care management, interprofessional collaboration, and survivorship care. This naturopathic oncology POC document can be a valuable resource for ND ONCS and other oncology care providers to further an understanding of the naturopathic and integrative oncology care model and its potential for collaboration [...]";
so, the ND as cancer specialist. And a claim of clarity, plus a promise of furthering understanding. So, why is it when I search the document there are no instances of: vital force, life force, medicatrix, power or healing? In other words, why is it that this supposedly clear and understanding furthering PRINCIPLES document does not communicate the essential vitalism principle that defines naturopathy? Therein, I call opacity and manipulation. And I caution: beware, beware of the dishonest and the lies of omission.
002. comparatively, also published in 2019, this time in Integrative Medicine: A Clinician's Journal [Aug/Sep2019; 18(4): 36-39], NDs Zeff and Snider write in "Unifying Principles of Naturopathic Medicine Origins and Definitions":
"the following are the definitions of the unifying Principles of Naturopathic Medicine. Principles: The Healing Power of Nature (Vis Medicatrix Naturae). The healing power of nature is the inherent self-organizing and healing process of living systems which establishes, maintains and restores health. Naturopathic medicine recognizes this healing process to be ordered and intelligent. It is the naturopathic physician’s role to support, facilitate and augment this process by identifying and removing obstacles to health and recovery, and by supporting the creation of a healthy internal and external environment [...] naturopathic physicians respect and work with the vis medicatrix naturae in diagnosis, treatment and counseling, for if this self -healing process is not respected the patient may be harmed [...] Zeff JL, Snider P, Myers S. A Hierarchy of Healing: The Therapeutic Order. The Unifying Theory of Naturopathic Medicine. In: Pizzorno JE, Murray M, eds. Textbook of Natural Medicine. Missouri: Churchill Livingston; 2006";
so there's a step, via medicatrix. Yet still, in THAT article, there are no instances of: vital force, life force, explicitly and clearly stated. We are given such coded: again, opaque, manipulative. And then there's that reference. A very helpful reference.

003. in that reference, which I own [also archived here], we're told:
"many naturopathic modalities can be used to stimulate the overall vital force [...] this is the removal of the obstacles to cure, which allows the action of the vis medicatrix naturae, the vital force, the healing power of nature. This is the first step in the hierarchy of healing and what naturopathic physicians may call the overarching clinical theory of naturopathic medicine: the therapeutic order [...#2] stimulate the healing power of nature (vis medicatrix naturae): the self-healing processes";
so, that's the TEXTBOOK on naturopathy. So, deep at the heart of naturopathy we get that explicit science-ejected vitalism that is the essentially naturopathic. Ah, the slime. The slime. Not patient-centered. Not clear. Not furthering understanding. Overall.
