001. in "Dr. Alan Christianson, NMD", from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine YouTube account (posted and saved 2019-05-06) we're told by the good "NMD":
"[from the description] one of our alumni from 1996, Dr Christianson speaks about the naturpathic [sic., their spelling] profession [...the NMD states] my name is Dr. Alan Christians, I'm a graduate of Southwest College from 1996 from the first class [...]";
so, someone who has been in the game for a long time.
"so if you're looking at a career in health care, naturopathic medicine has so much to offer. We're really part of a two-century lineage [...]";
well, I'd add "a career in sectarian healthcare [...] naturopathic medicine has much to HIDE [...] we have two centuries of sectarian commitments." Now, homeopath Scheel coined the term naturopathy in 1895, roughly 124 years ago. Two centuries is rather padded as a number. And modern medicine itself is a result of a much longer lineage, obviously.
"without the core understanding of how the body works, and how we have this innate sense of resilience, this capacity to move back towards homeostasis. And that's what the profession is all about, how do we encourage that, and how do we amplify that response [...]";
so, coded vitalism. Much to hide. But I'll give you the explicit vitalism through SCNM itself below.
"[titles include] as of 2017, 1 out of every 7 naturopathic doctors are SCNM alumni [...] we are more than just medicine [...]";
I'd argue that this MO of hiding what's essentially naturopathic is greater than 1 in 7! Yes, ironically, they are more that just medicine. There's an underneath, beneath an opacity: sectarian pseudoscience.
002. the NMD's practice pages:
002.a. first of all, in searching his site drchristianson.com, I found no "medicatrix", no "life force" , no "vital force", no naturopathic principles! As if none of that is important...
002.b. but on his page "Note from Dr C" (2019) he writes:
"there is something unique about naturopathic Physicians. We felt a calling towards the healing power of nature [...] we are now a global movement that has been refining these concepts ever since with the aid of modern science";
so, what's unique? There's coded vitalism again, and a science claim! Uniquely manipulative. But, with the aid of modern science, it's easy to research this simple fact: naturopathy's vitalism, no matter how expressed, is science-ejected.
002.c. another broad science claim can be found in "Free Membership" where we're told:
"simple, science based, natural solutions you can use to reset your health, and your life [...] deep dive article on a relevant health topic backed with science and research [...]";
science!
003.a. that vitalism can be found explicitly expressed:
"naturopathic principles [...include specifically the requirement to] harmonize life force";
yes, science-ejected for decades vitalism.
003.b. and a broad / overarching / categorical claim of science in "About Us":
"[naturopaths'] practice is based on [the] same bio-medical science foundation that conventional practice is [...] naturopathic physicians cooperate with all other branches of medical science [...]";
yeah. Science! But a science foundation excludes what's essentially naturopathic like like a science foundation excludes medieval humoralism.
