abc15.com: ND Cole Says Detox, and Avoid Misinformation and Be Empowered

here, more ND opacity about 'the essentially naturopathic' and toxin fear-mongering:

001. abc15.com tells us in "Naturopathic Wellness and Health" (2015-06-018):

001.a. from the video description:

"Cole Optimal Health Solutions is a paid sponsor of Sonoran Living [...]";

ah, no wonder the 'interview' is so fawning.

 "Dr. Jill Cole [...] she strives to give people the most valuable experience possible, with a sound education [...] Cole Optimal Health Solutions (COHS) helps correct and restore proper function to people's body through education [...]";

the ND as educator.

"people are put on medications that cause side effects (like fatigue), instead of correcting the underlying cause of these chronic diseases [...] there are multiple factors, including detoxification, fitness and hormones that need to be addressed that most people miss [...]";

so, there's naturopathy's accusation that regular medicine is UNETHICAL while naturopathy has the answer.

"visit our website www.coleohs.com Cole Optimal Health Solutions is a paid sponsor of Sonoran Living";

let's go there.

001.b. from the video:

host: "in today's world its important to arm yourself with knowledge especially when it comes to your health"

ND: "we were successful in resolving their health concerns, especially chronic disease processes [...but] they didn't have the education [...] that I really wanted them to have [...] and really understand what's going on with their bodies [...] they have to have a sound education if they're going to make sound educated decisions."

host: "empowering people and really educating them."

ND: "there's so much information out there, misinformation [...] everybody's got to do detoxification if we haven't' yet [...] often the blood work that people get is not enough information [....] I do about 8 tests for thyroid [...and] a whole host of other laboratory testing."

so, the idea of information and education, and detoxification.  But the need to detoxify is a fake need, and that's quite misinforming.

002. at ND Cole's practice coleohs.com:

002.a. at her bio. page, we're told ONLY:

"Dr. Cole is a naturopathic physician and expert in natural medicine.  She received her doctorate from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine [...] her pragmatic approach is to resolve the underlying disease process through safe, gentle, natural therapeutics and lifestyle changes based on easily comprehensible principles that will facilitate your body’s innate ability to heal."

and that's all you get.  I don't find a transparent explanation of naturopathy, though the ND talked so much about knowledge and education and empowerment.  Naturopathy's PRINCIPLES are not communicated even though in "Education Classes" we're told "we believe that knowledge is power."

002.b. and we are promised science in "Here Are Some Myths Concerning Diet and Weight Loss":

"when you follow my science and fact-based Metamorphosis program."

002.c. yet in "5 Pillars of Optimized Health" we're told:

"detoxification: our world is more toxic than ever. We absorb these toxins through the air we breathe, the water we drink, the medications we take, and all the chemical additives in our food, including hormones in meat and milk products. These chemicals play havoc on our body by blocking the effects of natural hormones on target tissues and preventing the absorption of nutrients. I show you the proper ways to rid your body of these dangerous toxins, allowing for improved digestion, more energy and clearer skin."

the toxin Boogeyman! This is bullshit fear-mongering.

003. meanwhile, at her alma mater, SCNM, we're told about "your body's innate ability to heal":

003.a in the 2003 SCNM homepage which states:

"first described in western medicine by Hippocrates, the vis medicatrix naturae, is also referred to as chi in Chinese Medicine, prana in Ayurveda, and vital force in homeopathy. When alive, the vis medicatrix naturae enables humans and other living beings to resist entropy and decay, unlike inanimate objects that are subject to these effects. Creating treatment plans that harness the healing power of nature, that incorporate dietary and lifestyle improvements, that employ the least invasive, least harmful and most effective therapies, is the art, the heart and the essence of naturopathic medicine."

the science-ejected article of faith at the heart of naturopathy, that so many NDs like ND Cole, who supposedly values informed decision making, do not transparently communicate.  That essence is falsely labeled science.  So, the most honest thing an ND should communicate is that 'when we say science, beware!'
