001. the NUNM account at Vimeo.com uploaded the video "Iridology by Dr. Zeff" [saved 2017-11-21], where we're told by bescrubbed ND Zeff:

"iris diagnosis is not new [...it provides] a lot of information [...] so what's the point of iris diagnosis? When I was a student, we were told by the board that we weren't supposed to deal with iris diagnosis because it wasn't scientific and they were trying to present the face of naturopathy as science [...] that's basically what I'm doing with iris diagnosis [...]";
that's quite the admission of naturopathy's continuous 'facade' activity. And though Zeff insists the technique isn't about pathology, he does use the term "diagnosis" there.
"the
iris is a homunculus like the pulse [...] like the tongue [...] like
the ear [...where] you can see the whole body [...seeing] function and
dysfunction, not pathology [...] is there an eye sign on the iris? Yeah. There's also on the ear [...] it gives me an indication of the overall health of this patient, what areas do I want to look at especially [...] the center of the iris is the stomach [...] the left kidney's in the left iris [...and] spleen [...] the left lung is in the left iris [...] the liver's on the right side [...in the] right iris [...] pancreas is on both [...] I look at almost every patient's iris almost every visit in my office [...by] ophthalmoscope [...] I use it every day [...] when I'm doing my physical exam [...] this is my 39th year in practice [...] I've some patients I've been seeing for 30 years [...like] a patient today with chronic pancreatitis [...and he
speaks of how parts denote] the stomach [...like] a stomach ring
[...] its rare that I don't see stomach disturbance [...] a hypofunctioning of the stomach [...for] dysfunction in the stomach [...and] the intestines [,,,and] rectum [...with]
toxicity [...aka] leaky gut syndrome [...and general] inflammation [...from] the gut [...]
a problem in the genitourinary system [...its] kidney [...and] degeneration [...and] a
drug spot [...per] Jensen [...] drug residue, maybe a toxin residue [...from] excessive drugging [...] toxic residues in
the tissues [...] skin issues [...] a problem with the liver [...] something's going on with the brain [...] a potential lesion in the brain [...] some issue up there [...] a nervous system disturbance [...] a weakness in the brain [...] when I look in peoples' irises that have dementia, I see that [...] congestion in the lymphatic system [...] stress [...]";
that's quite a lot of junk. Something is indeed going on with the brain, it is indeed of weakness.
"[he speaks of a patient with] adrenal fatigue [...] I gave her a dose of homeopathic adrenal cortex 12 and she perked right up [...] in her case her adrenals were underfunctioning [...] the two most common things I see people for is adrenal fatigue and low thyroid function [...] today I had a woman in who has a serious pituitary problem and we could see on her iris, I showed her, I have a handy little device which I got when Jensen was teaching us [...] an iris self-study mirror [...] I had her do that [...look at her iris with it which had] a little dark spot which corresponded to pituitary disturbance [...]";
so, of course, with junk pseudodiagnostics comes pseudopharmacy.
"I pulled this picture off the internet [...] most of the time [...these things] match up with the reality that you're looking at [...] you can see changes in the iris as the person changes [...] you can see some of those lesions change [...] as people get healthier [...] I'm not going to see a change in the iris in two weeks [..instead] over two years [...] I see changes over time [...] I've seen changes in color in the iris [...] the stomach ring, I've seen it change in intensity as their stomach heals [...] I'm absolutely convinced of the stomach ring [...] there are some other things that I do find consistently [...] the stomach, the lung, and the heart area, the kidney, the liver area [...] these major organ functions, I'm pretty certain those are reliable [...] how could the color of the iris change? [...] the iris is sitting in a fluid medium [...from] the blood [...] substances there could potentially crystallize onto the iris [...] toxins within the fluid [...] and they can also be removed by the reverse of that process [...]";
right!
"I just read an article today [...]";
but what you really need is completely reeducated and it would be great to stop the miseducation.
"there's a lot of craziness in our world [...] I'm a naturopath, I don't like messing around with nature [...]";
oh yeah. And HUH? You INTERVENE!
"you all know about NMI, right? [...] Naturopathic Medicine Institute [...] this is an organization, we've been going for about a year now, it's based upon the restoration and promulgation of naturopathic vitalism [...] that's the kind of medicine that Suzanna does, and that I do [...] not IV prednisone, that's not vitalistic naturopathic medicine [...] it's based upon this kind of stuff: people healing from the inside out because what causes disease? [...]
there's three levels of membership [...] basic [...and] vitalist track [...] then there is the fellowship track [...] the NMI is a work in progress, we're making it up as we go along [...listen] every Wednesday on the West Coast from 9-10 and it's recorded so you can listen to it later [...with a fee then of] $25 a year [...] discussions of vitalist naturopathy [...] what did Lindhahr say?[...] lowered vitality, abnormal composition of blood and lymph, accumulation or morbid matter and toxins or poisons [...] that's what Lindhahr says causes disease [...] what causes those things? Violation of natural law. How do you heal? You restore adherence to natural law and help, if necessary, raise vitality, detoxify the toxins, and normalize the composition of blood and lymph. And then what does the healing? The vis medicatrix, not the doctor [...] put about 3" of cold water in your bathtub and walk in it for about a minute or two before bed [...aka] water treading [...]";
I include this as research for the script for Episode 014.
002. overall:
knowing how nutty systemic diagnostic iridological claims as these are, I feel like I've an inside view, by way of the video, on a madhouse: NUNM. A 2017 madhouse, sad to say. I particularly like the screwy expression on ND Zeff's face as he uses his presentation equipment. What's sad is how happy all the student's sound: sows at a trough of nonsense. Some of it is really funny, like the ophthalmoscope lesson at the podium when the student tells Zeff he has "a lot of weird color in there" [25.21]. Now, one of the tells about how fake iridology is, because the iris and its appearance is stable, is the LACK of pictures before pathology, as compared to With the problem, AND THEN pictures of the iris after naturopathy treatment has presumably fixed the problem. It's so OBVIOUSLY fake, therein. You can doctor 'after' pictures surely, but here there aren't even any!
SBM has a 2011 article up that tells us:
"iridology is an excellent example of pseudoscience in medicine,
displaying many of the core features. It was invented by one individual
based upon a single observation. It follows a pre-scientific notion of
biology – the homunculus model. It lacks any basis in anatomy,
physiology, or any other basic science. Its practitioners are mostly 'alternative' practitioners who use the technique as a cold reading. And
the research clearly shows that iridology has absolutely no effect – it
does not provide any useful information at all."
Zeff, by the way, is one of the co-authors of naturopathy's supposedly modern principles.
