3 Naturopaths and Their Autonomic Response / AK Diagnostic Muscle Testing Woo

here, old bad wine in a new bottle.  Muscle testing woo as "autonomic response testing" and "quantum reflex analysis", which is really just 'applied kinesiology' renamed / rebranded.  Creating fake measurements with a fake diagnostic that the naturopath then offers solutions for, usually in the form of supplements.  Sounds like ye old racketeering / grift to me.  Cue the 'ka-ching':

001. by way of and the search parameter >naturopathic autonomic response<, here are some high-ranked first-page results:

001.a. Schwartz, R. (ND NCNM 2001), who states

001.a1. in "Autonomic Response Testing":

"your autonomic nervous system (ANS) is responsible for the smooth flow of everything involuntary in your body.  When you are exposed to a substance or EMF that your ANS feels is a negative strike to your health, the overall strength in your body goes down slightly.  The doctor, by using a weak muscle in your body, can feel this shift.  Likewise, a positive shift can strengthen a weak muscle [...] Dr. Schwartz uses autonomic response testing (ART) to help determine the cause your health disruptions.  The technique, based on the work of Dr Dietrich Klinghardt and Dr Alan Beardall, allows the doctor to detect subtle changes in the patient’s physical response to specific tests.  By listening to the patient’s history, testing the patient’s physical response to different elements (vitamins, minerals, hormones, etc.) and determining remedies for treatment [...] our patients receive highly individualized medicine; the remedy is the right medicine at the right time for that particular patient [...]";

the magic of muscle testing.

"how does it work? [...] when you listen to a radio or take a photograph with a camera, information about some distant object is being projected across space and delivering information that is being detected and interrupted by the device into a desired format – the audio or the picture produced.  This occurs using electromagnetic frequencies (EMF).  We take this for granted because we have receptors for them, our ears and eyes, that we have been using our entire lives. The human body produces EMF, sending information out which in most of our lives we simply do not detect.  We don’t detect it because we have not been using it throughout our lives.  One example of where you may have unknowingly used this response is when you have a feeling that somebody is behind you.  You turn around and sure enough somebody is there.  This was your EMF reacting to their EMF – a detectable disruption.  Detectable disruptions are used during ART to determine what needs treated [...]";

it DOESN'T work.  But, cue the explanatory pseudoscience. Her bio. link above also states:

"Dr. Schwartz is a referral doctor for quantum reflex analysis (QRA), a kinesiology technique [that is, ANOTHER one] that accesses points in the body to help patients uncover the underlying cause of illness and support the body nutritionally [...]";

brand X woo versus brand Y woo.

001.a2. in "Quantum Reflex Analysis", we're told:

"quantum reflex analysis (QRA™)is a unique, highly effective system that employs a muscle-testing technique of medically accepted reflex points to determine the bio-energetic status of your body’s key organs and glands. QRA™ uses your brain’s feedback mechanisms to identify your specific organs and systems that are functioning at less than optimal frequencies.  This simple but profound method allows your body’s wisdom to inform what it needs to heal and allows the practitioner to pinpoint those areas that need to be supported, nourished, detoxified, energized, and rebalanced. By identifying the key imbalances within organs and glands, QRA™ pinpoints the specific nutritional supplements needed to restore, balance, and promote optimal health.  The QRA™ technique addresses the source of clients’ health issues. The presence of infections, parasites, viruses, bacteria, heavy metals, environmental toxins, and nutritional deficiencies, which may go undetected, are often the cause of health issues. It is critical to the health of the body to eliminate parasites and other toxins. By supporting each organ—including the brain—with specific nutrition, we can strengthen the body’s immune system through quality foods, nutrition, and detoxification [...]";

quite the parcel of roguery.

001.b. Drobot, J. (ND NCNM) in "Autonomic Response Testing":

"the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is the part of the nervous system that we cannot control with our mind. The ANS regulates breathing, heart rate, digestion, immune function, sleep patterns, hormone regulation, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, tissue regeneration, and liver and kidney detoxification [...] autonomic response testing (ART) grew out of the importance to detect and correct problems of the autonomic nervous system [...] ART is taught through a series of classes from the American Academy of Neural Therapy or the American Academy of Neural Kinesiology [...] autonomic response testing (ART) is a system of evaluation and treatment developed by Dietrich s, DC, ND. Dr. Klinghardt is a German trained physician who also has a PhD in neurology. ART uses applied kinesiology, electroacupuncture (EAV), O-Ring testing, Nogier pulse, Chinese pulse, heart rate variability and other techniques to assess the health or dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system.  Dr. Klinghardt believes that many practitioners using kinesiology or muscle testing in their practice are often getting inaccurate information because the autonomic nervous system is not functioning properly. In ART, this condition is called 'blocked regulation' and refers to the inability of the ANS to self-regulate and is caused by 7 common factors. These include: undiagnosed food allergies, heavy metal toxicity, petroleum chemical toxicity, chronic unresolved infections and scars, temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ), unresolved psychological stress, and electromagnetic stress. Dr. Klinghardt has developed specific tests for these factors and treatments to correct them [...]";

001.c. Brunton, C. (ND CCNM) who states in "Autonomic Response Testing (A.R.T)":

"A.R.T. is a simple yet highly effective kinesiology technique we use to determine disturbances in your body and possible remedies for treatment.  A.R.T. is and advanced form of muscle testing / kinesiology and treatment developed by a German medical doctor, Dietrich Klinghardt M.D. PhD.  It is non-invasive and can be used to assess people of any age.  A.R.T. is often effective when other alternative and conventional techniques fail to reveal the underlying root cause of illness which may be: old scars, interrupting energy flow in the body; toxicity form mercury amalgam fillings in the teeth; electromagnetic stress; TMJ problems, unresolved psychological stress, and more.  A.R.T. is used in many conditions including but not limited to: allergies, arthritis, anxiety, chronic infections, chronic pain, depression, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, diabetes, hypoglycemia, menopause, digestive problems, sinusitis, premenstrual symptoms, endometriosis, ADD, ADHD, and many others.  A.R.T. utilizes EAV / EDS, O-ring testing, Chinese pulse diagnosis, and other techniques to assess the health or  dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system. This is the part of the nervous system responsible for all the automatic functions in your body, such as your breathing, heartbeat, digestion and healing. Problems with this part of your nervous system are present in all dysfunctions (i.e. allergies) and chronic diseases [...]";

quite the panacea.

002. meanwhile, in reality, we're told about ART / QRA / AK and all such muscle testing woo [not to be confused with orthopedic testing, neurology testing, and the actual field of kinesiology], Quackwatch has the article "Applied Kinesiology: Phony Muscle-Testing for 'Allergies' and 'Nutrient Deficiencies'":

"the concepts of applied kinesiology do not conform to scientific facts about the causes or treatment of disease. Controlled studies have found no difference between the results with test substances and with placebos. Differences from one test to another may be due to suggestibility, distraction, variations in the amount of force or leverage involved, and/or muscle fatigue.  If you encounter a practitioner who relies on AK muscle-testing for diagnosis, head for the nearest exit [...]";
